The Devil’s Tuning Fork
The Devil’s Tuning Fork is a first-person exploration and puzzle game built around visual sound waves. I was one of two designers on a fifteen-person DePaul student team that created it from scratch over six months for the Independent Games Festival.
Designing Around Sound
Inspired by optical illusions and echolocation, the game asks players to understand their surroundings through sound rather than a conventional view of the world. Looking back, that central idea is what makes the project stand out to me: the way players perceive a space is also the basis of its exploration and puzzles.
The Premise
The player is a child trapped in an alternate reality after falling into a coma. A magical tuning fork lets them perceive the world as they search for other children and a way to escape. Developing the game brought together design, art, programming, and production around that shared premise.
